I have installed the database services successfully of sql server and then Mangement studio was giving some upgrade type of error. Apply Microsoft visual studio SP1 atleast for visual studio. I believe the problem is not with the eyesight, the problem is that msdn documentation is not updated in a proper way. Many people generally miss such parts. Moreover, sometimes we do not see the document date to start with. You must be logged in to reply to this topic.
Be sure to configure maximum memory on each instance; the default is to use all memory available, so the busier instance may grab all the ram and leave nothing for the second instance.

As per my comment above to Farseeker is one or your instances a default instance or are both named instances? In our case all are named instances. However, you can install one as a default instance with named instances. That's actually how my laptop is set up now. Brian Kelley. Sign up or log in Sign up using Google. Sign up using Facebook.

Received the same error from the install when trying to install the new SQL instance. Seems likely that if I'd re-booted after update 2 above things would have gone more smoothly.
Although you should have no problem running a instance of the database engine beside a instance, The tools are installed into a shared directory, so you can't have two versions of the tools installed. Fortunately, the tools are backwards-compatible. Works great. Before installing the tools, you need to remove any and all "shared" components from I believe the installer also has an option to upgrade shared components only.
You might try that. Good luck! In my case even after uninstalling all related components it didn't worked. I had to resort to a brute force way and remove following registry keys. Installation of SQL is now proceeding as it should. The problem is that SQL MS has a bug where connecting to a remote server say like a service provider collocation it will always try to open the fist db in the list, and since the possibilities of been ur db the first on the list are really low, it will throw and error and fail to display the list of dbs I followed the steps by Josh Hinman above.
This hot fix appears to be for Windows Webserver Edition only. I had the Windows Server Standard Edition. I have installed the Web service and Application Service on my computer which run Windows Standard. WWW service is running.
I have created a test site to check that. Any idea? That can be the cause? Thank you!! This was such a time saver and extremely useful article.
I actually found this before the MS kbase article. Just thought I would thank you for posting this. I have not followed your path yet to the hot fix but I am sure this will solve my problem. Plz send me the pdf for installation of. It has allowed the installation of the configuration tools but I do not have the Studio Management installed.
The Studio Management tool usually has to be selected for installation during the setup procedure. No Joy. I also see no Studio Management suite, and there is definitely no option to install it during set-up.
So what to do? Perform the install of SQL Server
